"A powerful storm has hit the western and southern coasts of England,

forecasters warning of more to come.
There has been widespread disruption to roads, rail and air travel,
while
almost 12,000 homes are without power.

The Environment Agency said the first wave of storms only caused
localised
flooding but warned people should remain vigilant.

Further high winds are expected to hit the coasts and 41 flood
warnings
are
in place in England and Wales.

A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said: "The situation has now
improved along parts of the south west and southern coasts."

Is it April 1st? Is nothing else happening in the world? Is it "Give
an
unemployed journalist a job" day?
Since when did some stormy weather on the coast of Britain (anywhere
in
Britain) deserve this level of coverage? I'm flabbergasted by the
absolute
desperation of the BBC and other news organisations to make something
out of
this non-story!
I expect so much more from the BBC than this. I am thoroughly
disappointed
at the waste of time and money spent on this rubbish.

Why is it that when there's a bit of a storm in the south does the BBC
go
ballistic with the coverage - major disaster blah blah blah? Yet when
we
in
the north have a similar wind, statements such as "there will be more
wind
or gusts of wind in the North" has a mention on the weather forecast.

When I saw the topic "Is this the Winter's Worst Storm?", I thought
that
our
government had gotten involved in another scandal.
It was a relief to see that we are only facing a few days of hurricane
weather.

The BBC have been caught out once before for not forecasting a storm
so
now
they are covering their back by reporting every slight puff of wind.
No doubt come summer they will be reporting life threatening droughts
sweeping the country.
Bring me some real news !!!

As a Scot, but not a sanctimonious one, I too feel that the whole
'worst
storm' scenario and the way it is totally overhyped is pathetic. Since
Matthew Howes asks, I can say quite truthfully that we (North of
Scotland)
have had this exact weather,(wind speed and rainfall) probably five
times
this winter alone, never mind in the last 5 years. The difference is
we
just
get on with it. God I hope it doesn't snow next week...............

Someone is bound to try and make a killing on selling "I went out in

rain" T-shirts to all those who ignored the amazingly inaccurate storm
warnings. But those who took notice of the warnings and were
traumatised
by
the noise of their garden gates blowing open are already being
neglected
by
the total lack of counselling being made available. That's the problem
with
this country, we just don't get our priorities right.
