In his book "Capitalism and Freedom" (1962) Milton Friedman
(1912-2006) advocated minimizing the role of government in a free
market as a means of creating political and social freedom.

An excerpt from an interview with Phil Donahue in 1979.

And Friedman was quite right too.
He was an economist after Adam Smith who also advocated a free market
economy as opposed to John Maynard Keynes who advocated government
intervention in the country' economics, which is sadly what Labour are doing
in Britain and which will ultimately wreck the economy of this country.
Britain is actually at the top of the slippery slope.
Sadly Friedman died in 2006.
