Languages such as Bengali and Mandarin should be given the same
priority in schools as French and German, the education watchdog
Ofsted says today. It warns, however, that the teacher training system is
holding
youngsters back because most "community language" teachers are not
qualified. Schools no longer have to offer lessons in a major European
language, but can opt to teach other world languages instead.

Bengali no, it's a regional Indian language and so is dying.

But Hindi...

But you miss the real reasons we are getting this tosh. Hindu Asians are not
in need of any special help, they most certainly on average over achieve in
school, in college and in employmeny. Bengalis however over achieve in
prison numbers, benefit claimants, and with the smallest percentage in
higher education of any ethnic group. By promoting Bengali, it just gives
them a free pass, and it generates employment for Labour voters.
