Alan Johnson, the Health Secretary, has been accused of overstating
the benefits of adding fluoride to water in the fight against dental
disease.
Tooth decay in children across Europe has fallen irrespective of
whether there is fluoride in the water, authors of a report have said.
"
So which New Liebour MP's have shares or directorships in the
chemicals industry and water industry that the addition of poison into
the water system is being proposed?
Ar, could you please point us in the direction of info about fluoride as a
poison? It's not something I know about...
Fluoride side effects
Stop taking fluoride and seek emergency medical attention if you
experience a rare allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of
the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Uncommonly, discoloration or mottling of tooth enamel has been
reported with long-term use and/or large doses of fluoride. Notify
your dentist or doctor if you notice changes in the appearance of the
teeth.
Other, less serious side effects have also occurred. Continue to take
fluoride and notify your dentist or doctor if you experience
*
stomach upset;
*
headache; or
*
weakness.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention.
Symptoms of a fluoride overdose include nausea; vomiting; abdominal
pain; diarrhea; increased salivation or drooling; numbness, tingling,
or loss of feeling in a body part; painful muscle stiffness; seizures;
and possibly death with large overdoses.

Interestingly, the only side effect NHS direct mentions in connection
with fluoride is dental fluorosis - they do mention a possible link
with childhood bone cancer in boys, but state that it is impossible to
prove that one causes the other.
