Solar heating 208 years
What a total load of bollocks.
A solar water heater should cost no more than 100 to buy (not
2000 as now advertised). FFS it's only a *small* radiator system in
reverse, with *no* boiler.
Given the *real* cost of a solar water heater that means the
payback gets reduced to around 1 year.
The economics of large areas of modern life change dramatically if
you subtract the labour costs.
This is not always a realistic option: how much extra would the NHS
cost to run if *every* home owner fitted their own solar water
heating?
OK - add on 300 for plumbing it in.
The payback goes to 3 years (on a system that should last 20+ years)

I think they meant solar leccy. As you say you can build a solar hot
water heater for ?100 but not buy one. I explained how I might do it
using old skirting heater element a while back. The tricky point is
the stat and valve to make sure heat don't go backwards into the
outdoors. Not sure where you buy that.
Solar heating and solar electricity are different things, one is actual
solar panels which are expensive and energy intensive to produce, with low
energy yield, while solar heating is in essence, just panels with tiny pipes
of water that heat up capturing the suns rays.
