Solar heating 208 years
What a total load of bollocks.
A solar water heater should cost no more than 100 to buy (not 2000
as now advertised). FFS it's only a *small* radiator system in
reverse, with *no* boiler.
Given the *real* cost of a solar water heater that means the payback
gets reduced to around 1 year.
The economics of large areas of modern life change dramatically if you
subtract the labour costs.
This is not always a realistic option: how much extra would the NHS cost
to run if *every* home owner fitted their own solar water heating?
OK - add on 300 for plumbing it in.
The payback goes to 3 years (on a system that should last 20+ years)

I think they meant solar leccy. As you say you can build a solar hot
water heater for ?100 but not buy one. I explained how I might do it
using old skirting heater element a while back. The tricky point is
the stat and valve to make sure heat don't go backwards into the
outdoors. Not sure where you buy that.
