You have to be careful with such calculations, as technology moves
quickly, and while it might cost to *add* energy saving devices, but if
you design new builds from the beginning with the technology it doest take
anywhere near such amounts of time.
Even more interesting.
If global warming is real, and indications are that it is, then a highly
insulated house will need cooling using air conditioning in the summers of
the not too distant future.
Though if it's on a flood plain, nature will do the cooling.
