I recently had to undergo the forced labour of jury service.
I was not happy that I would recieve no wage for this service but it was either work for them or face imprisonment.
My discontent was made even worse when I arrived at the court and sat down with about 40 other prospective jurors slap bang in front of a large television showing a programme which it is fair to assume was to engender thoughts of justice, principle and right and wrong.
You could tell the type of juror that the court was hoping for as thee program was "The Jeremy Kyle Show"
It really peeved me off to have to sit and watch this bilge and it truly was indicative of the degredation of our legal system.
The reason there were 40 prospective jurors is that they had nowhere else to sit other than the one waiting room for normally 15 or so prospective jurors indicative of cronic under funding to the point they have no proper court facilities.
The case i sat on was evidence of the further dumbing down of the court system as 99 percent of the prosecution case was pure hearsay and supposition.
I suppose though,if the country is to be flooded with cheap labour from the third world there is no need for a sophisticated and pricipled justice system as most of the cheap labour have only ever known the type of cheap and nasty system currently being foisted on Britain.
If you don't want to do jury service just tell the defence that as a juror you feel it your duty to support the police and find the defendant guilty.
