Six months usually - and they make you jump through hoops to claim.

I've just found a site that claims that it will accept the self-
employed - wouldn't like to bet on if they would pay out or not (terms
seems ambiguous)!

Yes, I'd be sceptical ! Just glad I paid mine off back in 2005.
