As much as I agree with most of that, the problem we have on Planet
Earth
is
that there are parasites making tons and tons, gazillions in fact of
money,
off peoples misery, wars etc, as soon as we stop this greed then
maybe
just
maybe things could change :(

Wouldn't be simpler just to stop the envy?

Maybe for the mega-rich, as they would have to do very little except
perhaps stop envying poor people for their ability to walk the streets
without being recognised by the worlds media.

So, why do you think it is so difficult for the average Joe to stop
envying?

Because much of modern lifestyle in capitalist countries is geared to
the promotion of envy.
Wealthy people are promoted as much as
possible, not just in print and tv, but also in films which have a
double edge - the rich are portrayed as something to aspire to and the
actors who play the parts themselves become rich and are the subject
of endless coverage in the media.

It's plain to see, that your whole outlook does not regard envy as a
negative and reprehensible quality, but a completely legitimate and
understandable consequence of having less than others. It's hard to know
where to start when confronted with such a fundamental perspective.

We must watch very different TV. Flicking through the channels, I am
assailed with soaps - not scrutinizing the lives of the beautiful people,
but the working class - Eastenders, Coronation St etc..etc.. Gritty cop
dramas abound - and the wealthy are rarely the good guys. Magazines and
newspapers seek out the rich alright, but it's not to hold them up as models
to "aspire" to. No, they are sought out with the sole intention of bringing
them down. "If they don't have morals, then why should we - the proles?"

If you make poor people
consider

....."make" them consider? They have no power of discerning for themselves?

that the only way they can be seen as
successful, happy, etc is to accumulate lots of money, then they will
want to do that.

Would you want to be like Paris Hilton? Princess Margaret? Michael Jackson?
Michael Barrymore? Or any number of unhappy, deluded, lottery winners? The
world abounds with examples of unhappy wealthy people, yet they are *not* an
example to the poor?

There are only two ways that they could possibly hope
to manage this feat.

One is to gamble all the money they have on lotteries or equivalent,
and spend the rest of their time dreaming of what they would do if
they had the millions they only have a miniscule chance of winning,
(the irony here is that at the same time they are actually making the
wealthy even richer, as the lottery owners are some of the main
beneficiaries).

The second is to turn to crime. The bigger the gap between rich and
poor, the greater will be the proceeds of crime and the greater will
be the number of people to turn their attentions in that direction.
See the current situation in wealthy parts of South Africa for an
example.

Dear God, what sort of Victim-centric worldview do you have? "There are only
two ways that they could possibly hope
to manage this feat" Is the possibility of *working* your way to a better
life such a nightmare prospect, that it doesn't bear inclusion in your list?

I don't know you, but from the flavour of your post above, I'd wager that
you accept little responsibility for your own actions or situation.
