both big brother christopher and little brother peter claim
they are no longer socialists....

meanwhile both cling to the tatters of that dire mindless cult....

big brother still clings to the mindless atheism.....
while little brother clings to the mindless authoritarianism....

unfortunately little brother seems to get the worst of the poor deal
as he tries to defend the dictatorial iranian mullocracy against
the far more advanced guided secular democracy of turkey....

while big brother just cannot make an argument without introducing
some sort of shallow untutored anti-clericalism almost as
thoughtless as that of dorkins.....

thus neither have really surmounted the 'godless'/collectivist
mind poison into which they were both likely conditioned.....

"... Christopher says, 'I don't regard Islam as the enemy, I regard religion
as the enemy' - but Peter reckons a big problem with the West's war on
terrorism is precisely its lack of a strong religious-based ideology capable
of challenging the beliefs of the Taliban: 'Despite being a civilisation
based upon Christian principles and living in the afterglow of the Christian
civilisation, we're not particularly Christian anymore. We're not even
pagans - we're just consumerists. I really don't think we have much of an
ideology with which to combat the immensely powerful and, in some ways,
rather impressive faith of the Islamic world.'

So does Peter want to see that most unfashionable of things, a 'clash of
civilisations' - despite UK prime minister Tony Blair insisting everywhere
he goes that this is not a religious war, while President George W Bush has
been forced to scrub the words 'infinite', 'justice' and 'crusade' from his
war dictionary for fear of upsetting his 'Muslim friends'? 'As far as I'm
concerned', says Peter, 'the West's progress, its relative liberty of
thought and action and an awful lot of the other things that make it
attractive, are based on the fact that it is Christian....or was Christian'
..."

Even with the age on that at
http://www.spiked-online.com/Articles/00000002D2C7.htm it appears to be a
fair contrast.

Christopher has been the secularist darling of the comforty left (writing
for Vanity Fair prior to 2002) and Peter -- I would peg Peter as possibly a
royalist in another time and also in that other time he could have well
written the bit about the coaches contributing to the demise of masculinity
in old blighty since the horseman was not atop his "frothing steed" in the
wind and weather.

precisely...

Some comments on Peter are:
"Hitchens is dismissive of the modern British Conservative Party, frequently
deriding its members as the "Useless Tories". He has often been at odds with
fellow conservatives, and believes that the Conservative Party shows a
consistent record of wrong policies that cannot be dismissed as accidents or
mistakes. He cites as examples: the Iraq War; the privatisation of the UK's
railways; the reorganisation of local government in 1974; the introduction
of the GCSE exam; the Police and Criminal Evidence Act of 1984; the Criminal
Justice Act of 1991; the severe reduction in defence spending at the end of
the Cold War; the agreement to the Single European Act; and the signing of
the Maastricht Treaty."

i always think his heart is in the right place..shame about the brains

Peter sounds to be a bit of a loose cannon as well........

As an illumination into Christopher, I repeat the above:
"'Despite being a civilisation based upon Christian principles and living in
the afterglow of the Christian civilisation, we're not particularly
Christian anymore. We're not even pagans - we're just consumerists. I really
don't think we have much of an ideology with which to combat the immensely
powerful and, in some ways, rather impressive faith of the Islamic world.' "
In a more fraternal comparison he says: "The real difference between Peter
and myself is the belief in the supernatural. I'm a materialist and he
attributes his presence here to a divine plan. I can't stand anyone who
believes in God, who invokes the divinity or who is a person of faith."

God bless ya, Chris. :-)

Concerning Peter's Persian holidays, what he says reminds me lightly of what
I have heard concerning Charles Lindbergh and Nazi Germany or Walter
Duranty's glowing "reports" of Stalinist Russia of the thirties.......

just so...
you do realise the very same fossil 'mail', owned by the very same
family, was shilling for adolf until that became rather embarrassing

I do agree with Peter that the West has become a materialist, consumerist,
society.
