I imagine she stepped over the line when she backed down and allowed a
jury. I'm just wondering what kind of threats could have been made that
would have been effective against her. No doubt her replacement will tell
us a lot indirectly.

She hardly backed down, it was a High Court Ruling on an action brought by
Fayed, a perjurer or a corrupter. You take your pick, whatever the case, he
should have been barred from entering Britain years ago. Perhaps it is a
sign of the times in that these days it would appear as though we can bar
anybody.

Lets face it, Lady Butler-Sloss has retired. Does she need any of this?

The purpose of of any inquest is simply to determine the cause of death no
more no less. If the circumstances of Diana's death were repeated on British
roads but involved a much less notorious victim then the proceedings would
be over in a couple of hours. As it is there is Fayed egged on by the Daily
Express who has been making most outrageous allegations. Her ladyship has
already stated she has in her possession "not a shread of evidence" to
support any of this. As a result, she was quite happy to proceed sitting
alone (not in camera) to hear the evidence and thus dispose of the formality
expeditiously according to the wishes of the Princes and the Spencer family.
It was Fayed again who was allowed to involve the death of son in what was
originally to be a single inquest.

Now it would appear as though yet another media circus is about to get
underway over an estimated five weeks is it? The legal establishment seems
powerless to prevent it. It will sell a lot of tabloids.

For Christ sake what are they going to talk about for five weeks?

Am I to understand that that tirades of unsubstantiated piffle are going to
be presented as evidence to a British court without any reluctance on its
part to hear it?

If so who is going to risk his/her reputation by presiding over such a
debacle?
