There is a suggestion here that politicians might seek increase their
influence on the management of the currency. There have been rumblings
to the same effect some time ago (from Italy) I understand that there
is provision in the treaty to allow this.
It's an old established socialist belief that economic miracles can be
performed through tinkering with interest and exchange rates.
We face the prospect of those who do know what they're doing be
supplanted by those who don't.
If that happens it will be the death knell. Perhaps then Europe will
be able to move at long last in the direction of sanity.
