Why?

We need the money?

What do you mean by that?

Isn't the idea of lots of them to extract fines for
various misdeeds?

I should add that I think we were far better off when we were poor.

Again, I don't see the connection.

If cameras mean income "we" as a country get more money.

True for traffic cams I suppose.

THese cameras were going up 25 years ago, long before the second wave
of mass immigration and emmigration began.

Not long before. That was the time of allowing in all the relations
of immigrants from Pakistan, for example.

Yes I'm well aware of that. The first cameras went up on the M4 in the
early 1970s.

but the fact remains, that we have far and away more of these cameras
than most of our G8 partners combined.

There must be a reason that we have so many and they don't.

it is this specific reason and an acceptance of the fact of the
matter, and how very odd it is that I am getting at here.

Why us and not them?

It has been argued that it is because they can, as we don't have a
written constitution. I think that's plausible to an extent. So I'm
asking are there any other leading industrial democracies, that don't
have written constitutions, and if there are any, how do they compare
with the UK, in this regard (of per capita cam coverage).

In the UK it is approx 1 cam for every 14 people.
