"If we had fought back some of us wouldn't be here today".So said the
sailor newly returned from Iran.
That's nice but I'm rather glad that my father and his friends didn't
say that in 1939.
Likewise my grandfather, still we've all passed a lot of water since
then and we've ended up under the heal of European socialism all the
same. All things being equal we cold have just marched the men over
the cliffs of Dover and still be in the same situation as we are
today ...
... all in all I'd have prefered not to have had the war. And as for
this petty little Iran thing, getting shot over a petty squabble to
protect the flags flying over a pair of RIBs strikes me as equally
pointless. I for one can certainly think of better things to fight
over.
Oh I agree with you friend. I am not in the least a fan of the military
or military action. I was just remarking on the ridiculousness oftheir
utterances. They are in the military, with all that that involves, so to
come out with (more or less) 'we are trained to kill people but musn't
shoot' seems somewhat illogical to my eye.
