As to who should take over from St Tone, I dunno. I think they

Staggering isnt it? To move so far so quickly, I suppose it is what is
called the 'tipping point'. I suspect Blair was pretty close to this
just
before the July Bombings last year, but his response to that (Blair is
the
master at such things, sometimes he even makes Clinton look bad) incident
pushed his stock rocket high, he seemed to capture the mood, and regain
his
leadership credentials, with the Tories squabbling over ID cards and
holding
terrorists for ninety days without charge (as the Sun put it).

Are those in Government aware of how quickly power can slip away? If I
was a
Labour backbencher in a marginal, (less then 3500) either LibDem or Cons
I
would be very worried, in fact, frantic would be a better description.

I'd guess they are, which explains why they go to extraordinary lengths
to cling onto it.

How long are they going to allow Blair to carry on??

How do you get rid of someone who won't leave? I seem to remember
enormous pressure on Major.

Someone could put a motion of no confidence before Parliament, and Blair
would be obliged to either resign or call a general election.

James Callaghan was the most recent PM to have lost a motion of no
confidence (by one vote, apparently).
