I am a new male driver, over 30, from a bad neightbourhood.
I have already given you my insurance costs at ^#337. I could of course
trim those down by getting rid of the 'extras' and getting rid of two
of the three additional drivers on the policy. If I then took fire and
theft cover only, at an estimate, I should be able to pare off another
^#100 from the above.

You might possibly be surprised. Admittedly your car is much
newer than mine, but last time I checked I was paying about #6 for
the named drivers and fully comp.

I am at present on a 50% NCD so where are we?
^#460 - ^#500 ? Add another ^#100 for your inexperience

For Pete, that may be OK. Try getting insurance for an 18yo
male [luckily my daughters are female!]; you're often talking 2-3K
or more, if you can get a quote at all.

and I would be
surprised to hear that you couldn't get basic cover for under ^#600.

The area has much more influence than that. IIUC, you live
in rural Yorks, == dirt cheap; your costs could double or worse if
you moved to an inner city, esp if you have to park on the road.
There's not much rhyme or reason to it, either, AFAICS; #1 daughter
got #100 refund when she went to Sheffield Univ, to a much worse
area than home. And of course living in a nice, quiet rural area
doesn't mean you do most of your driving there rather than in a
nasty, dangerous hustly-bustly inner city, or vv.

Have you not spent an hour or so on the web looking for quotes?

My experience is that you can spend an hour on *each* quote,
only to find that their web site bombs out just before actually
telling you anything. Also, they far too often insist on Explorer,
thereby losing my custom instantly. "Confused.com" ought to be a
Good Idea, but it isn't ['cos when *they* bomb out, you can't get
quotes from anyone else]. Personally, I'm with Saga, which was
#50 [over 20%] cheaper than the next cheapest quote I could find,
but Pete doesn't qualify. You might ....
