Mature adult Europe has a lot of experience underAs a confirmed atheist of 45yrs standing, I would never seek to denigrate
its belt when it comes to devastating wars and religious zealots.
The steady hand of atheism is now upon Europe and
it no longer regards the slightest religious pop as
a reason to war. Things are taken at a steady fair pace.
However, secular Europe now finds itself in middle of a
religious zealot war. Between the Far Right Christian
Americans and the Far Right Islamics. Both want to control
the world, both will walk over the soft liberal European.
When Europe asks about Guantanamo Bay, they only get laughed
at by the US.
And do today's British Muslim marchers care that it is
the same liberal attitude that doesn't cut the hands off
cartoonists, is the same one that allows them to come
here in the first place.
For the Atheist it means they should be vigilant, and
if they don't want to lose science and evolution they
should not allow Europe to march back in time.

anyone else's belief in whatever "god" or idol they wish to believe in.
Surely, tolerance, even in the face of intolerance, should be the paramount
consideration of any self-respecting atheist and, by definition, humanist.
The point missed by most Islam haters and proponents of so called 'Free
Speech' is that look hard as you may, but you won't find anything in Islamic
culture that mocks Jesus or Moses. It is one thing to caricature believers
in Islam, Judaism or Christianity on the grounds of political or cultural
differences, but entirely matter to attack the core of their belief.
Maybe, but there should be no law or social taboo about attacking the
core of Muslims' beliefs. Any more than attacking the core of a
Marxist's beliefs or a Spiritualist's beliefs. If someone wants to
attack the core of my metaphysical beliefs then I'll be in there like a
rat up a drain pipe to put my case. If someone doesn't feel the same
way about their own religion then maybe they ought to get themselves
another one.
