Notes:-

2005: Law was the Labour Party Member of the National Assembly for
Wales for the coterminous constituency until he was expelled
on handing in his nomination papers. He was opposed to the
use of an all-woman shortlist for the selection of the Labour
candidate to succeed Smith.

2006: Davies was sponsored by People's Voice, an organisation set
up by supporters of Law following his election in 2005.

Candidates' Biographies

Dai Davies, electrician. Born 1959. Former trade union convenor and
works council secretary at Corus Ebbw Vale steelworks. Joined the
Labour Party in 1975. Secretary for Blaenau Gwent Constituency Labour
Party. Expelled in 2005. Agent for Peter Law at the 2005 general
election and subsequently Parliamentary Assistant.

Alan Hope, landlord of the Dog and Partridge public house in Yateley,
Hampshire. Born 1942. Leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party since
1999. Formerly an Ashburton Town Councillor. Former Mayor of
Ashburton. Contested Teignbridge in the 1992 general election,
Eddisbury in the July 1999 byelection, Kensington and Chelsea in
the November 1999 byelection, Aldershot in the 2001 general election,
Brent East in the September 2003 byelection, and Hartlepool in the
September 2004 byelection.


Amy Kitcher, assistant Regional Manager for Mike German AM. Born 1981
in Merthyr. Educated at Aston University and the University of
Sussex. Formerly worked in the retail trade.

Steffan Lewis, student. Born 1985. Educated at Cardiff University.

Owen Smith, government relations consultant. Born 1970. Formerly a
BBC journalist. Currently Head of Government Relations for Pfizer.
Special Adviser to Paul Murphy as Secretary of State for Northern
Ireland and for Wales.

Margrit Williams, researcher and caseworker for Sir Malcolm Rifkind
MP. Born 9th May 1964. Educated at Southend High School for Girls,
Queen's School in Rheindalen, and London Guildhall University.
Trained as a financial adviser. Formerly worked as a global
investment strategist. Member of Wandsworth Borough Council for
Furzedown Ward from 1990 to 1994. Contested Blaenau Gwent in the
1997 and 2005 general elections.
