on my local radio station today, the news taked of the call by a chief
constable to ban the sale of cheap alcohol, "...following the murder
of Mr. Newlove who was attacked by teenagers who had been drinking and
smoking cannabis."

Nowhere in the reporting of the case I have seen (including the BBCs
own website, and the Times report) has cannabis been mentioned. So
where was this "fact" dreamt up ?

So I have submitted an official complaint ... we wait to hear.

I stand by my original complaint. No mention of "cannabis". "drugs",
yes. But "drugs" could be aspirin, cocaine, heroin .... so what did
the BBS know that the court didn't ?

"Helen Newlove's husband Garry, 47, was kicked to death by a gang of
youths who had spent the day drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis."

Thanks for that - no idea how I missed it. However, I find press
agencies quoting other press agencies a little pointless ... my
complaint to the BBC stands, where I have asked if they can produce an
offical cite (court transcript or official statement by the police).

It's interesting that since my complaint, certainly on my local BBC
radio, subsequent discussions of the case have failed to mention drugs
at all, but confined to the alcohol element of the crime.
