Do parenting classes work? Who will pay for them? Who is looking after
the younger kids when the parents are taking classes?
Take them along for practice?
How much is it down to parenting skills, and how much down to parents as
role model? I'd hope that any parent wants the best for their children,
and many people do have morals. Why does it fail in these cases?
Everyone knows who the nutters are -- I certainly did at my school,
and so did the teachers. So why not take drastic action at the first
small, obvious sign of psychopathy?
It's a bit of a slippery slope - profiling people who may become
criminals. I wonder if the care services have a bit much power already.
As a first aider I'm meant to report any concerns of suspected abuse up
the chain. I can imagine parents becoming paranoid - "He fell off his
bike - better not go to the doctor just in case they think we hit him",
though apparently the wound types are sufficiently different.
There's a story on the BBC today about someone who converted to Islam,
got to know the wrong person, and ended up under one of those terrorist
control orders. Not a nice story for someone not found guilty of
anything.
