I don't drink _in order to_ become drunk. Maybe I shouldn't judge others
that do. I do daft things like karate for fun.
I'll drink as a side to something else, but it's in moderation. When I
talk about people who drink in order to become drunk I think of those
who'll pre-medicate on vodka or similar before going out, and who seem
to focus on the experience itself of being drunk.
The nature of the drug is important though. It was always very noticeable
that during the "rave" era, there was almost never any violence at any
event where the dominant drug being taken was ecstasy.

Guess it is an indication of the banality and pressure of modern life for
the young.

most people find being drunk a fun experience.So's naked sky-diving without a parachute...
Maybe not that one.
