New skills are acquired more slowly in older folk than in yoinger folk,
but they can be acquired. There is a PhD student I know working on a
dissertation about old folk (well really old women) who had never used
computers before retirement but who now use them on a regular basis. It
seems that computer use is a skill that can really help older people
keep in contact with the world, and so keep mentally active and
interested.
