No I'm trying to say that there are grey areas with regards power and that
some people have it without turning into a tyrant or megalomaniac.
But in fact if you got through school without coming across a teacher
who professed an interest in improving your mind but who really just
wanted to make sure you obeyed his orders then you are lucky.
True enough. There are some that think they are always right because they
are the authority and there are those that seemed keener on telling kids
what to do than educating them. I don't recall all the teacher fighting to
be head or trying to order their peers about.
My mother recently broke her hip and the behaviour of the nurses in the
hospital suggests to me that they are less interested in her welfare
than in being little Hitlers whose word may never be questioned. They
had her tied down and most visits I have found her too "sedated" to
even recognise me. I suspect that they just don't want the trouble of
watching her and keeping her still.
I've found varying attitudes in nurses shifts. Some seem to do a reasonable
job. Others just want the patient to cause as little trouble as possible so
they get them in bed so they can go and watch soap operas on the telly.
These square-eyed nurses don't seem to have any caring and don't like
questions.
My father has an emergency button he can press. It's linked to a phone unit
so they can talk to him whilst sending someone out to help. They recently
installed a new unit and because of an extension lead decided to unplug his
existing phones so they could plug the unit in leaving him completely with a
useable phone. Bloody loonies.
I suppose almost any job gives opportunities for people exploit their
position and satisfy their need to dominate others. Librarians are
quite good at it too. Ah well,
We use the law to subdue some power and give favour to other powers. For
instance a man may have superior strength but violence isn't allowed whereas
car clampers think they can do what the hell they like and get away with it.
Prometheus stole fire from the gods. By this example shouldn't humanists be
looking to take power away from the little Hitlers? If so how can it be
done?
