impose a mass conformity upon Americans. What is new?
It seems strange to claim that it is 'culture' (or, more probably, 'Culture', the personification) that is responsible for this.
People usually claim to be keen on 'their' 'culture' as an identifying part of them, rather than as an oppressor.
