Crick on Humanism and Religion

Should we follow Bernard Crick's advice and ally ourselves with
moderate religionists to defeat fundamentalism?
(I have posted this separately to uk.philosophy.atheism. I wonder if
the opinions in an 'anti god' group will be any different to those in
a 'pro human' group?
