Evolution from a single common ancestor is an established fact but evolution says nothing about abiogenesis or the existence of the universe itself.

Dave is trying to explain that he worships a "god of the gaps" where a supernatural explanation is used to explain anything that science can't. Of course, this failed hypothesis is based on no evidence whatsoever.
