The Bombings

First off, on http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/2005.07.07.html,
you could see how much the American CNN has been talking about
yesterday's bombings. This has links to transcripts of CNN's programs
yesterday, " Explosions Rock London Subway, Destroy Bus, London
Terror, Terror Hits London Transportation System, Multiple Bombs
Explode in London's Transport System, Terror in London, Multiple Bombs
Explode in London's Transport System..." Yesterday one of the anchors
said, " It is another day we'll remember from the very moment we woke
up, Larry," so this seems big to us in the same way that the
destruction of the World Trade Center seems to us.
Also, regarding religion, just before that statement on CNN, a British
interviewee said, "And it's the next generation who we have to wean
away from fundamentalism in any faith and in every faith." That might
do Atheism more good than if a few Muslims become complete infidels,
since some skepticism among the ranks could help make everybody more
reasonable. Probably the Ibn Warraq who wrote Why I Am Not A Muslim,
would be able to relate to those who wouldn't take any religion
seriously.
This is sort of like the effects of the current scandal regarding
pervert-priests. Two decades ago, the monthly publication of the
Freedom From Religion Association had huge lists in every issue, of
the latest instances of ministers of any religion, sexually assaulting
parishioners. Those included priest after priest being transferred
from parish to parish, as they kept on molesting. So it was no
surprise that they weren't cured. And as a webpage from some
Australian survivors of molesting priests, at
http://brokenrites.alphalink.com.au/nletter/page8.html, says, "Child
abuse has long been a crime." Yet those who were supposed to be
guided by gawd, kept putting kids at risk from perverts who obviously
couldn't be trusted.
Many have been shocked that this hasn't led many people to dump
Catholicism. But maybe it's better that those who now can't believe
that God is guiding the Catholic hierarchy, remain in the Catholic
community, where they could give others this realism. And the same
would go for Muslims disgusted by the ideas in their theology that
only those who take everything literally would support.
