You might want to try Kylix. It was the Borland Delphi for linux

I didn't know Kylix was still around. I have an old download of it
but it requires a registration key of some sort to access it which I
can't get hold of.
I tried Lazarus which is a sort of Delphi look-alike and although it
does most of what delphi does, it has too many quirks and isn't as
stable. What I generally do is develop my programs under Delphi
running on XP and then compile them using FPC in Linux. That is
usually trouble free.
Having said that, I use delphi 5 which does all I want without being
bogged down with all the "dot net" crap.
I so agree with you about dot-net. I find it a complete coding pain and much
prefer VBA, even over VB.
I agree that AV editing is, excepting Macs, best off under Windows.
I've never used MathCad, although I here its a great bit of kit for
datamodelling etc.
It has its bugs but generally it's the best of its kind that I've
found and I've been using it for years now.
