If and when i get enough non troll posters declaring i should not make
such posts then i will duly oblige by refraining from doing so.

As far as I'm concerned, my word is enough. After all, how can you go
against the wishes of the master of the universe?

(yes, I expect you'll insist that I'm a troll - well, an arsehole like
you can be expected to hold stupid opinions like that)

I prefer links like this over pissing each other off.

<shrug> I find it irritating.

I don't know what the charter says about posting links

Nothing specific - but it does make the point that this newsgroup is for
support and while I can't see anything supportive about posting links
per se, well, it comes under the heading of `general chat' these days,
if you ask me. But it's bloody annoying, the way firemonkey does it.

(where's the charter
when you need one?)

Where it always is, in the standard place for any UK usenet charter:

<http://www.usenet.org.uk/newsgroups.html#uk.people.support.depression>

(or direct:

pport.depression>)

As the original post put it:

This is the initial charter for the newsgroup

as issued in the newgroup message. For further information on the

uk.people.support.depression Advice, support and chat for depressed
people.

CHARTER; uk.people.support.depression

uk.people.support.depression is a group for giving and receiving
advice and support relating to depression, from a UK-based
perspective. "Support" includes general chat.

People who are or think they might be depressed are welcome, as
are their friends, family, and others who may have an interest
in the subject.

ADVERTISING:

Advertising is forbidden.

FORMATTING:

All posts must be made in plain text. Other types of
formatting, including HTML and "business cards" or vcards, are
forbidden. Please note that this does not prevent the inclusion
of URL and email addresses.

BINARIES:

With the explicit exception of cryptographic signatures, all
encoded binaries are forbidden. Forbidden binaries include, but
are not limited to: pictures, sounds, word processor documents
and executable programs.

Please respect the fact that oversized binary attachments are
generally considered unwelcome in netnews. Cryptographic
signatures should be kept as small as possible (in other words,
don't use a huge key when a smaller one will suffice), and
should be used only when necessary. Many news servers filter out
articles that exceed a certain number of lines of binary
encoding. It is in the interests of posters to keep
cryptographic signatures as small as possible.

Perhaps it would be nice to start the title with [Link] if the post mainly
contains a link,
so people who don't like links can then just skip the the message.

That's stop it being annoying from my point of view. I find it most
annoying when firemonkey makes a post that's entirely quoted text,
quoted from a page that he's provided a link for - but he doesn't bother
to mention that he's quoting, so gives the impression that the words are
all his own. What's the point? If it's on the Web, just provide a
link.

In some Dutch newsgroups we use [OL] to indicate that the message is in
another language (than Dutch). That works well.

This is a UK newsgroup. Anyone who expects a language other than
English is going to be disappointed...

As you have found out, not many people speak Planet Rowland :-)

Rowland.
(who is aware that Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and maybe even Cornish are
real UK languages too, but also knows that hardly anyone speaks 'em[1]
and almost none of them are English)

[1] Wales has a population of about 3 million, and only about 1/4 of
them speak Welsh, which is 3/4 of a million people speaking Welsh,
roughly. All Welsh speakers in Wales speak English... I'm all in
favour of all UK languages being kept alive[2] but I'm aware that most
UK folk are English and only speak English. It worked when we had an
empire. Worked for the Romans, too - except they stuck with Latin.

[2] So if Scotland doesn't want to pay to keep Scottish languages
alive, the money should come from Westminster.
