I wonder if you might answer a question for me. When you're out walking
on your own in an isolated area and you spot a strange man coming the
other way, what do you do/think?

If I were a woman I imagine I'd be at least a little wary,

Why? Young men are much more at risk from random acts of violence than
women are, and I've never been remotely concerned about talking to
people I've met when out walking in the country - I used to do a lot of
that sort of thing, when I was younger.

but almost
every time it's happened to me (me being the strange man, that is) the
woman has smiled and said hello and sometimes stopped and chatted for a
while.

You know why that is.

That's because the people you meet out in isolated spots are almost
always decent types. The sort of person who's going to `do bad things'
can't be bothered to make the effort to go out walkies on the hills.

Okay, there are a few rare exceptions, but Brady and Hindley types are
thankfully *extremely* uncommon.
