Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm going to try a barkingly mad magic
square system again. 29 x 29 got me two numbers, so obviously 59 x 59
will get me four numbers :)
I knocked up a spread*** and set it running, intending to leave it
going overnight.
<techie pseudoscience>
(It uses the 59x59 magic square as a sort of template, and with a
trial-and-error method using the spread***'s random number
generator, it successively refines a set of weights. The process is
open ended, and is limited only by the periodicity of the random
number generator and the length of time for each weight to become
clearly different.

You are just like Rowland, he pretends to do worthwhile things with his
Mac, but it's all just useless *** and it would be more environmentally
friendly if you just turned it off :-)
I also physically unplugged the PC from the internet.
That's a good start, keep it like that for a couple of months.
This morning I found the PC had rebooted itself; at first I suspected
another power outrage, then I saw the message saying that Windows had
downloaded a security update, installed it and rebooted my computer
for me.
As you might imagine, I would happily do very painful things to Bill
Gates as a 'thank you' for his little 'present'. I'm happy for Windows
to download and install all available bug-free security updates as and
when it wants, but I want to choose when my computer gets rebooted.
Imagine if a critical system used windows,
LOL, Yeah right, you are a wag :-)))))
say the space shuttle
during re-entry and all control was lost while the system rebooted!
(I also find it difficult to understand how Windows downloaded
anything, since my PC was disconnected from the outside world.)
So, if there are any Windows gurus out there (Pubby?), how do I stop
windows rebooting my computer in future?
Get a Mac, with your new found literary windfall, get two :-)
I bought my ticket based on the system anyway - I'm less hopeful than
I was :(
Surely not :-)
