grilled mac n cheese? interesting. <g>

My dad's known to most as Mac[1].

You wouldn't fit him under the grill.

Rowland.

[1] And his parents were universally known as `Mr Mac' and `Mrs Mac'
to all bar family. Mr and Mrs Mac, and their son Mac. Honest.

how did they come up with rowland?!!! :)

Oddly enough, it wasn't my grandparents who came up with my name. That
pair were Maurice and Fleur, first name wise.

It was probably my mother who got the suggested names on a list, given
that my dad's severely slydexic - although I've never asked.

As names go, it's moderately uncommon in England, but it's not a
horrible liability like Gawain or similar. I've only ever met one other
Rowland in real life[1], although I once heard someone calling out to
another Rowland (major confusion time for me - I'm always the only
Rowland in any given place, right?), and I've met another Rowland with a
W on the 'net. Us Rowlands with a w have to specify that `w' or the
name gets spelt wrongly.

I once got asked my name by a policeman when my face was very cold
(under suspicion of stealing my own motorcycle, in case you're
wondering). He thought I was claiming to be called Ronald MacDonald. I
showed him my driving licence. He got the message.

Rowland.

[1] The first time I came across that particular Rowland, he rang the
house. Student house. I answered the phone. `Hello, it's Rowland', he
said `Yes, I know', I replied. `Who are you?' Umm... Well, we got
there in the end.
