What if you have a job that you can't leave and the work
you do turns your brains into cheese, the boss is a petty
minded bullying *** who makes everyone's life a total
misery such that everyone at work hates and fears him,
there's no talking between staff permitted at work, and so
on?
Right now? Honestly?
Yes. It's been getting more common in recent years in the
UK.
I'm amazed that people put up with it!
They need the money and there's often no way to stop it for all
that the law is supposed to provide protection against that sort
of thing - very often, the only solution is to claim
constructive dismissal at a tribunal, which is hard work - so
hard it's almost impossible to do without professional
assistance so if you're not in a union, you're screwed - not
sure of success, if you fail you'll be out of a job, and if you
succeed you'll be out of a job.
Sounds terrible!! :o(
<shrug> It's the way of the world. It's New Labour policy to
apply more control to people, to firm up the grasp of wage slavery.
That's awful!
Well, yes, of course. That's the idea.
It shouldn't be though :o(
I reckon New Labour will be out next election. I think they've very
nearly lost already.
Who do you reckon will be voted in?
And then it'll be bloody Dave's lot. Oh god... Well, they can't be
as incompetent as the current lot, can they? Please god no...
Who is Dave?
But every damned government we'd had from the Second World War up
until Bliar took over operated a policy of improving social
mobility and slackening the shackles of wage slavery. All of 'em -
Tory or Labour, didn't matter, they all had the same idea: free the
people!
It sounds like things have gone belly up since Blair was voted in!
:o(
Haven't you noticed?
Nope, sorry!
[snip]
What I object to about Bliar's lot is the vileness, the lies,
the hypocrisy, the way that they've reduced social mobility,
increased the power of central government, weakened the voice of
the people in keeping government under control, done a good job
of reversing the huge gains in freedom - mostly improved social
mobility - that all governments of all hues have been giving us
since the second world war. And Bliar comes along and puts us
back to the 1930s... Fucks up the NHS, fucks up education, fucks
up everything he touches. And he lies about it and believes his
own lies.
Oh right :o(
Haven't you noticed?
I don't read newspapers and our TV is bust so I only know what is
happening from people online! :o/
You need to tune in to BBC Radio 4 and the World Service. Newspapers
and telly are no good for telling you what's going on in the world.
Ah right!
Private Eye has its uses.
What is Private Eye... sounds like a novel about criminals to me!
Newspapers have recently turned into a sick joke if you ask me - the
tabloids went absurd years ago. The so-called serious papers have all
gone down the tubes, too.
Oh right :o(
Murdoch ruined the Times back in the 1980s. The Torygraph has
recently lost all its good staff and turned into a tits-and-ass Daily
Mail-type rag. I cannot express my loathing of what that Rusbridger
creep has done to the Grauniad, which used to be quite a good paper if
you knew its biases.
The only time I've read *any* newspaper was at school (as part of my
homework) and I found the stuff I read to be too depressing and haven't
touched a newspaper since!
Which leaves us with the Independent - which, last time I looked,
seemed to have almost nothing in it; then Private Eye informed me
about the finanacial trouble it was in and how it could hardly afford
any staff at all. Ah!
Oh right!
(that ability to lie to yourself is one why we daren't have
people who obey the Pope running this country. You can't be a
devout Roman Catholic without having that ability and don't tell
me I'm wrong half my bloody family's RC. The nicer half, it
must be said - but they're terrible hypocrites at times and
totally untrustworthy on *that* level while being utterly
reliable on *this* level. It's all rather complex. But if
you're RC, you know *exactly* what I mean, don't you? Very kind
and decent people, my RC relatives, and it comes in part
from the church.
Ah right! I know very little about Religion! Sorry!
The above has to do with the details of how it actually works in
practice. Never mind studying religion: this comes from a study of
people. In this particular case, people who follow one particular
religion in one particular part of one particular nation at one
particular time in history, so to speak.
It's starting to get beyond me now... sorry!
What I mean is: `I'm not talking about religion, I'm talking about a
set of people who are a set because of their religious affiliation'
Gotchya!
[snip]
How long did it take for you to get round to doing that, though?
YOu put up with this violent physical abuse for weeks, yes?
Outrageous!
only about a month :o/
You shouldn't have taken it for one bloody day!
I was too shocked to say anything the first few times it happened then
when I asked her to stop she just laughed at me and did it even harder!
[snip]
It depends how you define injury!
You were getting brain injuries - how else to explain the
headaches? That was seriously violent abuse and the perpetrator
should have been locked up for it.
She was the same age as me
Is that relevant?
It was the closest I've got to a friend over here that I haven't met
online!
A friend? Friend?!?!?!!!!
That's how I saw her until I left then I realised how stupid that was!
Not a friend. Really.
I can see that now but at the time I couldn't :o/
(Over here? Umm - is there something I don't know about?)
Since I moved in with Steve
and everyone saw me as whinging about nothing
until I told the agency I couldn't work with her any more!
Ye gods. On the other hand, no-one's ever treated me that way. On
the other other hand, they wouldn't be inclined to try it. At
least, not more than once. I have a Paddington stare available
when I need it. It's ususually very effective.
I wish I could have done that!
Look into their eyes. Head level - not up or down. A calm
expression. Go into waiting mode. But `be there'. `Here I am - me,
the human being in front of you' is what you are saying with your
look.
Yeah, but I'm a titch and every adult I've met except my mum (I'm half an
inch taller than her) has been taller than me so I'd have to look up :o(
If you're pissed off, don't try to look pissed off. But if you *are*
pissed off, the tension will show in your face.
Apparently my eyebrows close in together when I'm pissed off! lol
And that'll worry 'em. Just look at 'em.
I'll try that next time! Thank you Rowland!
Rowland.
