[snip horror story]

PS, sorry Rowland. I know I sound a little harsh and maybe even cruel, but
that's how it is I'm afraid. Even my GP has told me too my face that it is
her who is causing my depression.

Harsh? Cruel? No, it's just very sad to read, that's all.

I suspect your wife is more in need of help than you are - at the
moment. But I don't know anyone who's ever had a clue what to do with
that `type'. And we are all `types', all of us. Running on pre-set
programs most of the time as if we were trained monkeys or maybe - worse
- actual brainless robots. All of us. Me, you, the Archbishop of
Canterbury and Salman Rusdie and all.

Take a look around you some time, look at how people do things, look at
how you do things yourself. For sure you have choices you can make -
but most of the time only between program X and program Y, if you see
what I mean.

When it works, it works. When it doesn't work, it's vile. Your wife
seems to have ended up with a bad set of programs, one way or another.

(Thing is, there are a lot of programs available, you can pick up new
ones, discard old ones, modify the ones you've already got, and select
between them - all of which gives the illusion that we all have total
free will. What a load of crap. We all run on rails, almost all the
time.)

I don't hold with the idea that some people `are bad' or anything like
that. Your wife's just a person with bad and good characteristics
inside her, just like everyone - but for some reason, she's ended up in
a very sad place where `being nasty' is what works for her. She needs
help to find a better way of living.

From your point of view, ignoring what I'd like in an ideal world, you
probably don't have any hope other than getting shot of her, based on
what you've told me.

But writing that had me nearly in tears - what a horrible world we live
in.

Rowland.
