Another bird seemed to check it out a couple of days earlier, but it was
a bigger bird than the barn swallows, but evidently, it was not to its
satisfaction.
By the way, just to be slightly pedantic, there is no such thing as a
'barn swallow' - a swallow is a swallow, and they nest anywhere they
can find a suitable ledge to position their nest (my paternal
grandfather has at least 2 pairs nesting in his garage every spring -
and he knows they're the same 2 pairs, because they're ringed (all
members of the swallow family are protected by law) and he's been able
(gods know how) using his excellent photography skills to take many
photographs - good enough for the ring numbers to be identified.)

Being a pedant isn't bad enough. You just have to be a pedant-know it all-I'm always right overbearing fool who is wrong half the time. Hoisted by your own pedant. Personally, I recommend you stick to being in the bearded lady sideshow for the local carnival.
