Take trolls as an example, I'm here sat at my XP laptop, underpaid and idle and just told I could have had a lay-in and there was no need to have faced the other commuters, "10.30am would've been fine", sigh.....

But she was a larf huh, then as now she would be socked up (magrat) elsewhere, back then she claimed to be a programmer in some gruuds, a publisher in others, or she was marrying her B/F and adopting his kids.
And all the different illnessess she has had (all self diagnosed), what a giggle with her claims of ME, and when Rolly self-diagnosed himself with Aspergers, she decided she had it as well!
And all the computers she has told us she has owned, her knowledge (and abuse) in tech forums, all coupled with her "woe-is-me" routines.
And nothing has changed, right upto this very morning it continues...

beyond the superficial", but all friendships, most relationship are superficial, very few relationships in all of our lives will ever be profound. It's just not the loonies posting to usenet, thats what real life is all about - bullshit, me first, fickle. Thats the way it is.

"unhelpful and distorted perceptions"? Of whom, or of what? Are you sure you weren't just being cautious, being self-protective - nothing wrong in doing that.
And what happened to the idea of upsd meets? I presume the FebruaryThe meets didn't produce anything longstanding, everyone didn't like themsleves so nobody liked anyone else, coupled with the fact people would post unfettered comments to this groop and the chatroom, and text on a screen in an archive cannot be undone. Think back, over the years and previous meets, which two names were singled out as the subject of posts and emails of the ilk: "I'm not going if those two will be there".
one never happened. Nobody has ever said otherwise, anyway. It's
amazing how many meets there were in the past as the emails, posts and
photos testify. It's a shame those have petered out.
I think it's time for me to take a fresh view of where I am and where
I'm going. Even if that's a bit like standing half way up a mountain
and wondering if I've taken so many wrong turnings that the only way
forward involves some strenuous and precarious climbing.
