In response to the emergence of spyware, a small industry has sprung up
dealing in anti-spyware software. Running anti-spyware software has
become a widely recognized element of computer security best practices
for Microsoft Windows desktop computers.

Mac and Linux users do not need to do so, mind. Spyware's only a
serious problem for Windoze, and that's because Windoze is so easy to
infect compared to other operating systems.

A number of jurisdictions have
passed anti-spyware laws, which usually target any software that is
surreptitiously installed to control a user's computer."

It's criminal to do so to a computer in the UK.

It might be worthwhile considering installing a spyware protection program.

It'd be a very good idea, but you'd need to find one that works well.
And that'd take research of more detail that `Whatever PC Answers told
me to do'.

PS If you're using Internet Explorer as your browser it might be worth
considering swapping to Firefox because it's much more secure than
microsofts browser.

Is it possible to use 2 browsers or not?

Yep :-)You can have as many browsers on your pc as you want. I've got
IE, Firefox and Opera.

Internet Explorer is ok

It's crap if you ask me - mostly because it doesn't work according to
the standards, but also because it's very insecure in all sorts of ways.

but coz 75% or so of the world use it

Rather less than that, actually.

No Mac users and no Linux users use MS IE, for example - MS dropped MS
IE for Macs many years ago, and it never has done a Linux/Unix version
at all.

The usage share charts only tell you what browser was *reported* to be
in use. A very large number of people set up Firefox to claim to be MS
IE so that the Website they're accessing works because Websites are
often set up to reject anyone who's not using MS IE. Which leaves
anyone on Linux or a Mac completely buggered, so we have to take
steps...

virus
writers specifically write their nasties to exploit vulnerabilities in
Internet Explorer.

That is a common misconception.

Malware authors write their nasties to exploit vulnerabilities in MS IE
because MS IE has /many/ more vulnerabilities than any other Web
browser.

Luckily, that doesn't affect me. MS dropped development of MS IE on
Macs years ago - it's a Windoze only product now, and its usage share
has been dropping steadily since.

Thus firefox is more secure,

It's more secure by design. Not because it's not used as much, but
because it's got fewer vulnerabilities.

and I like it coz it is
also faster and not made by Microsoft ;-)

Have a look at http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/

Safari's faster yet.

Rowland.
