The modern Goth kiddie `type' that I've seen recently didn't exist
twenty years ago from what I could see. The subculture seems to have
become somewhat degraded of late.

Old-fashioned Goths generally had/have a sense of humour (and of their
own ridiculousness[1]) about the whole business. Some modern Goths
still do; some are clearly just adopting some sort of pose.

As for the idea that tattoos are just for attention seekers - don't be
daft. In some cases, getting a tattoo is an expected act: part of the
culture, part of the social grouping. In those cases, it's *NOT*
getting a tattoo that's for the attention seekers.

Yeah! Cool! Like Maori warriors. I'll seek attention by not having
indelible ink poked under my skin with a needle, thank you. While I'm at
it, I'll avoid poking holes anywhere on my person, regardless of what my
culture expects.
