I had a Utopian dream, when I was young, that everyone would get paid the same. Bit like Cuba but more so. The one's currently at the bottom get paid for monotony; the ones at the top get rewarded with interesting jobs. I can't see it catching on, somehow.

That's a good start, but what would you do about people who can't work, and what would you do about people who won't work even though they're perfectly capable? And would you reward people who spend all their earnings immediately and penalise people who save for old age or illness, like New Labour?

lol, yeh, bastards! spending all their earnings immediately on absorbetant rent and mortgages, debts for a diet that isn't full of preservatives and salt. a person shouldn't have a night out after a 60 hour week until they're retired, don'tcha know.

yeh, punish the bastards! thoughtless buggers!

In that case, if everyone was paid the same, then everyone would spend all their earnings on rents and mortgages etc, so the problem of 'upgrade to a 42" plasma or save a little' wouldn't apply.

However rents and mortgages would presumably be a lot more reasonable if the money men couldn't take home gigantic salaries on the back of their usury.
