127.xml A contraceptive that stops periods and prevents
pre-menstrual tension could be available next year.

I appreciate the benefits that will bring to women, but I'm also
slightly concerned - menstruation happens for good reasons.

I suspect from experience of similar products that women will still
have to take a break from the pill from time to time, or perhaps
suffer a small, constant leakage.

While I agree that women probably do benefit from menstruation (it
wouldn't be there otherwise) it would be so good to see something that
can outweigh the bad if it cures PMT - I know it's an old joke about
women getting stroppyy, but it can have such bad effect.... If this
works, then I hope it's freely available. I won't be trying it as the
Pill makes me sick, and I don't fancy risking it again!

There's nothing cleansing or detoxifying or good for you about menstruation - it's just getting rid of unused stuff that got made "just in case". I haven't had a period in five years and have suffered no ill effects. Periods use up resources that are better spent on something else, and are bloody messy and disgusting (read that last sentence whichever way you want).

Opponents of the 'new' pill seem to be trotting out the old chestnut about "it might affect fertility". The trial leading to the headline was less than a year, so there's no evidence either way.
