Re: Stalin Joins The Telegraph

Worse than that, Scotland has its own parliament, so does NI, and Wales

in such circumstances, Scottish MPs should be permitted to vote on
issues that do not affect Scotland.

But for centuries English MPs were permitted to vote on Scottish affairs, including the infamous Poll Tax. Anyway, if England want an English Parliament they can legislate for one.

Note also that Scotland has received a far greater share of state
funding every year since the early 1980s - so of course Scottish
services work better than those in England, because Scotland's getting a
subsidy from - well, the City of London like all the rest of us.

I'm not sure that Scottish public services do work better, but if they do it might be because there is still a stronger public service ethos here than in (especially the south of) England. And public sector employees still have a hope of affording decent housing...

For most women in the developed world it's little more than a few months
of inconvenience and paid time off work.
That is one of the more staggeringly ignorant comments I've ever read on
this newsgroup.

It's true though.

If they don't want to get pregnant they should keep their legs closed.
You need half an hour in a room with Germaine Greer, you do. She'll
explain a few of the facts of life for women in `developing' countries.
And your ears will be bleeding at the end of it.
Put it like this: they don't often have the option of keeping their legs
closed.

I wasn't talking about 'developing' countries (or the Islamic world). I was talking about the UK with an NHS and paid maternity leave.

If they don't want to get smashed up in a car crash they shouldn't get in a car with a drunk driver - that'll hurt them more than pregnancy. It's amazing how many
women allow suspend all rational judgement, hit the alcopops on a Friday
night, and then start bleating when Bad Things Happen.
I'm staggered, I really am.
