Why? OK then - "shut up before you shoot your mouth off too much"
there, is that more understandable to you?

Why be so nasty?

<sigh> It looks to me as though you two are not using the same
language. Same words, and trying to express the same thing, but for
some reason you aren't understanding each other. Sadly, there's a lot
of that sort of thing going around.

I'd have a little more respect for you if I didn't know you're being
more tactful than truthful.

OK. Try understanding each other then.

<gritted teeth> It's what I've been trying to do by asking
Chrissy/Val/<today'sname> to explain herself.

She won't. All she does is get viciously sarcastic and nastier when I
ask her to explain.

You sometimes express your questions in a way that irritates or angers some
people.

I'd be grateful if anyone could help me understand her. What I mean by
that is explain things I've asked about and help me understand through a
process of reasoned discussion. I don't mean do what she does, which is
to make repeated posts filled with bile in reply to my queries.

Sadly some of what you write is perceived as aggressive and filled with
bile, whether you meant it that way or not.

I know you both have the
intelligence for it, so why are you both behaving like children?

In my case, because despite my efforts to understand, I've been
subjected to written abuse of a sort that gets my goat a bit. After
having suffered an extended barrage of this shit from
Chrissy/Val/<today'sname>, something inside me went `ping' and I let the
irritation out a bit, just to see how she likes it.

Which is what I call childish, and unhelpful.

Rational discussion had failed by this time, due to
Chrissy/Val/<today'sname>'s refusal to engage in discussion with me,
what with her chosing to ignore all my questions to her to explain her
point of view.

She also sometimes expresses herself in an unfortunate way.

Please note: I know I'm an arse (just like everyone), and while I'm not
sure that my behaviour necessarily counts as `childish', it's certainly
been `arseish' in patches of late.

Who isn't, sometimes? This newsgroup can't always take the strain though;
too many sore wounds rubbing up against each other.

From where I'm looking, you and Val have a lot in common. Perhaps
you're too similar for comfort? Just as 'opposites attract', sometimes
'like repels'. But if you could each cut some slack for the other I still
think you could at least manage to be polite to each other. This group can
do without arguments that are never going to be resolved.
