From the point of view of some people, it is impossible to either live
or die with dignity in any `care home' of any sort.

Me, for example. I'd rather die in a ditch than die in a care home even
if that does mean I miss five years of life.

And most of them do subject their residents to abuse if you look closely
- some of it worse than others. The way the staff treat old folks in
care is nearly universally condescending even in the better places, and
one never has liberty to do what one wants to do unless it's what's been
laid on by the `home'. Which means that since one size does not fit
all, many people will find the environment utterly unbearable.
