I was rather surprised to see on the TV news reports that would-be airline
passengers were actually being issued with transparent plastic bags 'to
carry the permitted items'. Whoever dreamt up that idea clearly has
absolutely no imagination whatever.

It's not about security: it's about getting people used to accepting
this kind of bull***.

That's certainly part of it.

I'm waiting for the proposal that all air passengers must be physically
restrained - it cropped up in the 80s when there was a spate of
hijackings.

You want to know how thick people are? When I was locked up in the
looney bin (only for 47 hours - the second doctor I spoke to let me out
when I asked him to), the nurses looked very hard and with great worry
at my huge hulking bike boots. I almost burst out laughing - well, if
I'd wanted to kick 'em to hurt 'em, I couldn't have done it wearing
clumsy great things like that with soft rubber soles, could I? If I'd
been barefoot - well, then they'd've had to worry about kicks. I expect
you've seen Savaté (sp?) shoes rather than just read about 'em?

Never even heard of them - but I know that bare feet can do a lot of
damage.
