I guess the best thing would to be to have said something like "budge
up then!" in a cheery tone. But I wouln't have done that either - much
more likely to have done what you did. Confidence is something which
builds slowly.

You aren't an idiot! It was your housemates who were being
insensitive. They should feel guilty!

Yeah. Most people are thoughtless rather than malicious. Still hurts
though.
Can you have something to do while they are on thier laptops? Either
have a laptop yourself or a book to read or some writing to do? That's
what I tend to do these days. That way you can be with people without
having to interact too much and not feel like a lemon.
