Anyone using Serif products - PagePlus etc., and thinking about
upgrading, now would be a good time to do it as they are offering 25%
discount for this Thanksgiving weekend only. Finishes Monday.

I used to wait until the price is £9.99 (+£3.00 p&p) (usually just before
the next version is released), but I have decided that my current versions
are more than sufficient for my future needs, now that I've retired.

No, I don't subscribe to the 'must have the latest version' philosophy
either.
When you read the hype for the latest model, the vast majority of features
have simply been carried over from the previous version. Paying again for
what I already have somehow doesn't appeal to me - even with the discount.
:-)

I'm the same way too - now. The one that irritates me most is Pinnacle
Studio. Albeit it's by far the best video editor, new and "essential"
features come at a high price. I've bought a couple of updates over the
years, but no more. They've brought out three versions since I last paid,
and still have no 64 bit "optimised for four cores" version - which is the
only thing that might persuade me to update now. Unless someone buys me an
HD camera, that is - because I'm not updating the camera either, now I've
no income to speak of. Phones are the same - I'm on my last ever, already
outdated, phone running an El Cheapo ASDA pay as you go SIM. When this
phone goes I shall go back to old phones left in drawers around the house.
Windows 7 and Office 2007 are the last ones I pay for.

I'm keeping completely off the update bandwagon now - unless it's free! I
shall be out of date all round, as befits an old codger.

I asked Mother if I was a gifted child. She said they certainly wouldn't
have paid for me.
