Was eating a toasted bread roll ladled with butter and ginger jam
yesterday while sitting at my desk. Don't know how it happened,
holding the thing skew whiff as I bit it, I suppose, but I saw a
piece of ginger fall on my knee and as I went to grab it the so & so
thing fell on the floor.
Still, it was just a case of searching the carpet and I'd find it, or
so I thought. I looked and looked but couldn't see it so yelled Ray
because I was sure I'd stand on it if I stood up.
He searched the carpet around me and couldn't see it. So he called
Meg who was fascinated by Dad crawling round the floor;-))
He pointed to my knee and told her, "Come on," pointing to where it
had landed on my knee, "Sniff!"
She did as she was asked then looked at him, "Find it!" he said.
And blow me down if she didn't go to the corner of the unit my puter
sits on beside me and virtually pointed under it with her nose then
looked up at Ray as much as to tell him, "It's there but I can't get
under that so & so unit!"
And Ray used the long, thin grab-it-all to ferret under the unit and
out came the piece of ginger!
I have never been so entertained in my life. I know she's been
trained a bit as a search dog but I didn't realise she understood so
much language and could w*rk out what he wanted her to do. There was
no hesitation, once she got the smell she just waited for him to tell
her to go find it and then went as near as she could get to it. It
was the way she tried to communicate with him that entertained me. It
was quite obvious what she was trying to tell him!
Belive me she had profuse thanks from both of us and a treat for
being so clever;-))
Amazing innit? How everything you droip always drops, rolls or jumps into
the least likeliest place you'd think of.
