And don't tell me to get rid of it. The problem is that
sometimes, getting more and more often these days, it's taking
ages for a page in IE8 to open and download. If I double click
on my IE icon on the desktop it is sometime about 30 seconds
before IE8 opens and then another 10 - 15 seconds before my
homepage (google.co.uk) downloads. It is similar now on Nettie
and my desktop, both of which are running Windows XP Home
Edition Service Pack 3. I thought that AdAware running in the
background was the culprit but uninstalling that doesn't seem to
have helped. I run Spybot's Teatimer on both machines but have
for quite some time now, so I don't think that is what is
slowing it down. I do all the recommended things like
defragmentation and emptying temporary files use CCleaner etc
regularly. So I was wondering if it might be a DNS issue,
whatever that means? Any ideas as to how I might cure it. IE6
on my old Windows 98 spare computer is so quick by comparison.

I know this won't help FN, but I've been running IE8 for ages
without any problems.

Geoff.

So was I, until recently Geoff, so beware, be very ware. :)

Hi FN. I have similar issues when I launch IE8, in that it takes 3
to 4 seconds for the Google UK Homepage to display. Thereafter
speed from website to website is fine. If I go back to IE7, the
opening speed is significantly quicker.

Just something else I discovered.. I use ZoneAlarm (Free) and
recently went to the ZA website and downloaded the very latest
version (9). I found though that this extended the delay I was
experiencing with opening the browser and so I uninstalled it and
reverted to version 8.0.298.000. If you use ZA, it may be worth
checking which version you have.

Just checked mine aa, it's
ZoneAlarm version 9.2.044.000
TrueVector security version 9.2.044.000
Driver version 9.2.035.000
ZoneAlarm Browser Security 1.5.227.0

That's the version that worsened the problem for me.

Seems to be performing a little better this morning though. I think I'll
be living with it a little longer, although I do have the latest version of
Opera installed. Might give4 that a go and see if I can get on any better
with that.
