Just got a site offering
holidays a few minutes ago. I don't know if anything I do
triggers them. I just suddenly notice them hiding behind other
windows I have open. The pages don't have the usual address
bar/window but the url is printed on the top blue surround.

Don't believe it - it's under the control of the site.

I don's suppose you can right click and 'View Source'

Nope there's no menu bar and right clicking just gives the minimize
or close choice.
Ther doesn't seem to be any
normal IE bars there at all no menu, no address bar, no statys
bar,

just a blue surround.

That's normal for pop-unders.

I suggest you turn off javascript in IE.

If these pop-ups only happen when IE is open, I'd change to
Firefox.

I'd also be looking for extra toolbars and Browser Helper Onjects
that may be doing the popping-up.

Have just done a complete scan with SuperAntispyware - it's found a
DNS changer which I have now quarantined - Hope that ws it, but how
has it got here? It's called Trojan DNSChanger-Codec and it has the
following registry key assigned to it:
HKUS\S-1-5-21-3216202826-1172349563-1005\Software\fcn

Also SAS detected an Adware Tracking cookie and a
Trojan.Agent/Gen-AppLocal whatever that is.

All now in quarantine

Well that doesn't appear to have worked. :(

Just had anoteher one advertising the US delivery company UPS. If I
click on it it says it will show me home to arrange deliveries from
my desktop:

The 2 this morning are labelled:

http://www.life-cover.net/?A=eye1NEW
http://www.widget.ups.com/ - UPS Widget

Shall now go and give the grc 'shoot the messenger' thingie a go.
and

I have never read a better reason for ditching Internet Explorer and
installing and using Firefox :-)

I've always seemed to have problems with Firefox Mike. I do have it
installed on this m/c and use it occasionally, but not on the Netbook.
